Homeless Outreach
DBT members will be making care packages for those in need, learning how to knit hats for the homeless, and participating in PB & J sandwich food redistributions.
Taking care of others that are in need is the message - it's always the message. This is the practice of Dana (Generosity). The most important practice of all. For 10 years we have been fortunate to have so many kind, compassionate practitioners donate their time and care to feed the many who are in need. Thank you to all who support this practice and welcome to the new practitioners!
Beach clean-ups/ Neighborhood Clean-ups
DBT members will be practicing social distancing by cleaning-up our community. This event is flexible and can be done at any time. In the month of September, members can collect trash at the beach, create an art piece with the trash, and submit a photo with Interfaith Oceans. Members are encouraged to complete this event with housemates and family members to enjoy the fresh air and better our community.
Dog/Cat Toy Making
Members will be creating DIY dog/cat toys for the animals at the San Diego Humane Society. Members can reuse old clothing and fabric to create toys for the wonderful animals that are waiting for their forever home.
Drives
DBT will be participating in a different drive every month for the Fall 2020 semester. Food, clothing, and toys for animals will be collected and donated to various organizations in the community. This will take the place of our usual homeless outreach that we are unable to do because of social distancing.
Dharma Bum Teens
MEMBERS ONLY! Help lead DBTeens on Sundays!
Dharma Bum Teens meets every Sunday from 12pm-1pm. It includes meditation and discussion based on basic practices such as loving-kindness, compassion, joy and equanimity. We will explore how generosity, morality, patience, diligence, concentration and wisdom play out in our lives.
Utilizing the format we created with Delta Beta Tau at SDSU (Nation's first and only Co-Ed Buddhist Fraternity), the kids have opportunities to share their experience with meditation and various topics. The program is led by Jeffrey Zlotnik in collaboration with the college students from Delta Beta Tau. DBTeens is free and all teens are welcome. Show up any Sunday and bring a friend!
